SDN experts unite to bring DevOpsdefined networking to docker users

SAN FRANCISCO, USA: SocketPlane, an independent software developer focused on open source software defined networking, announced their intention to bring Software Defined Networking (SDN) to Docker.

The SocketPlane team is comprised of industry veterans Madhu Venugopal, John M. Willis, Brent Salisbury and Dave Tucker whose combined experience in SDN, cloud computing and DevOps will elevate the networking abilities in containerbased application virtualization.

“We see the incredible value in the use of Linux containers evidenced by the popularity of Docker.” said SocketPlane CEO, Madhu Venugopal, ”We want to enable the Docker revolution by bringing enterprisegrade networking solutions to the ecosystem. This isn’t traditional SoftwareDefined Networking, we take a more pragmatic approach. SocketPlane will be native to Docker, developer friendly and familiar to network operators."

SocketPlane will use capital from LightSpeed Ventures to develop their open source networking stack. "I am thrilled to be working with SocketPlane.” notes John Vrionis of Lightspeed. “It’s a rare opportunity to be the first investor in a company with world class founders who are building disruptive technology in a massive market that is experiencing major transition."
