Intelleflex partners with Omni-ID to develop high memory passive tags

SANTA CLARA, USA: Intelleflex, the leader in Extended Capability RFID, announced a partnership with Omni-ID to develop high memory, EPC Class1 Gen 2 standards based tags using Intelleflex’s XC1 chip technology.

Omni-ID, a leading supplier of high-performance passive UHF RFID tags, will extend their product line to include tags with the XC1 chip, in response to customer requirements in the aerospace and defense markets. The first Omni-ID tag based on the Intelleflex XC1 chip is expected to be available in the third quarter of this year.

“The aerospace and defense industry has anxiously awaited standards based, compliant RFID tags with extended user memory,” said Ken Porad, Associate Technical Fellow, The Boeing Company. “It will be very exciting to finally have them readily available.”

Omni-ID offers a wide variety of high performance RFID tags that deliver near-perfect read rates on, off and near metals and liquids. Using a fundamentally different approach to RFID design, Omni-ID created a patented technology structure that allows for continued innovation and product development. Developing a high-memory tag based on the Intelleflex XC1 chip leverages this technology structure and is a natural extension of Omni-ID’s existing tag portfolio targeting the industrial, manufacturing and defense markets.

“Intelleflex is a leader in extended-capability RFID and our partnership with them around their high memory chip fits well with our mission to bring RFID innovation to a variety of markets,” said Stan Drobac, Vice President of Products. “We’re looking forward to working with Intelleflex as we jointly focus on the industry’s first EPC Certified high memory passive RFID tag.”

“We are excited to partner with Omni-ID, a leading supplier of passive UHF RFID tags, to develop and bring to market the industry’s first EPC Certified high memory tag product,” said Peter Mehring, President and CEO of Intelleflex. “Partnering with Omni-ID furthers the availability of Extended Capability RFID technology.”

The Intelleflex XC1 chip is the only EPCglobal Certified UHF Gen 2 chip offering 60 kbits of extended memory. The XC1 chip offers industry leading capabilities, including:

* On-chip memory organized into 60, 1K blocks, each block having its own read, write and permalock password.
* Over-the-air data transfer between the tag and reader can be encrypted using EPC standards based custom commands for enhanced security.
* Three levels of user access security are available for accessing the data in extended memory, each user access level having its own password.
* Authentication of the tag, providing the ability to confirm the tag is the original tag, not a cloned version.

The Intelleflex XC1 chip is currently available to ship in volume. In addition to the XC1 chip technology, Intelleflex also offers Extended Capability Class 3 (XC3) battery assisted passive technology which adds to the XC1 capabilities by extending the read/write range to 100 meters and adding support for sensors.
