Avantor Performance Materials enhances tamper-evident seals program for pharmaceutical product containers

CENTER VALLEY, USA: Avantor Performance Materials will offer tamper-evident outer packaging seals for all regulated pharmaceutical raw material and excipient containers by the end of 2011. The enhanced use of the tamper-evident seals will allow pharmaceutical customers to quickly identify evidence of product tampering and ensure the received shipment contains official Avantor product.

Avantor enhanced its tamper-evident seals offerings to give customers added confidence in Avantor’s supply-chain security and minimize the risk of chemical contamination and sabotage. The outer packaging for the company’s regulated pharmaceutical products will also present a consistent, standardized appearance worldwide.

“We are implementing our enhanced tamper-evident seals initiative to proactively meet the needs of drug manufacturers,” said Avantor executive VP, Pharmaceuticals and the Americas, Paul Smaltz. “This voluntary quality improvement program reflects our ongoing commitment to supply chain security and customer satisfaction.”

Voluntarily adding tamper-evident seals to all regulated products is one of a number of steps Avantor is taking, in collaboration with its suppliers and end users, to enhance the security of the chemical supply chain. Other initiatives include participation in the Rx-360 consortium of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and suppliers dedicated to improving supply chain security and advancing patient safety. In addition, Avantor also monitors suppliers’ quality and management of change systems and procedures, and implements transportation security measures and other programs to enhance product traceability.

Avantor manufactures and markets high-performance specialty chemistries and materials around the world, providing products widely used in electronics and photovoltaic manufacturing; biotechnology and pharmaceutical production; medical diagnostics and in research, academic and quality control laboratories.
