SID Display Week 2011, LOS ANGELES, USA: Samsung Electronics announced that it is showcasing several industry-leading technologies and other next-generation displays at the Society for Information Display’s (SID) Display Week 2011, May 17-19, 2011, at the Los Angeles Convention Center (Booth 707). These include the latest in Active 3D technology, plus advances in green display technology, transparent displays, plastic LCDs, vertical alignment (VA), and mobile LCD display technology.
The first Active 3D prototype of a 70-inch ultra-definition 3D LCD panel based on oxide semiconductor TFT technology, and a 55-inch full HD (FHD) 3D panel prototype with the highest refresh rate – 480Hz – are being shown.
In addition, a new Active Shutter 3D LCD panel, and an auto-stereoscopic 3D panel for commercial use without glasses, have been designed to offer FHD resolution in switchable 2D and 3D modes.
For the latest in green technology, Samsung is showcasing several low-power panels for use as future displays including the high transmittance, high brightness Pentile™ display with WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) resolution; the largest (10.1-inch) MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) display; a low-power multi primary color display producing an extremely wide color gamut; and a reflective, polarization-free, electro-wetting display prototype for eReaders and tablets that enables a paper-like, color-rich experience approaching today’s printed page.
Samsung Electronics several green display prototypes have been optimized for mobile devices to improve their portability with technologies that significantly reduce power consumption.
New VA technology prototypes are also being unveiled, which provide an exceptionally high contrast ratio and offer excellent side viewing plus extremely fast response times for future TV viewing and outdoor displays.
Samsung also is spotlighting new ultra-thin, unbreakable plastic LCD prototypes for tablets and other mobile devices, and highlighting advanced transparent LCDs for commercial and retail applications including freezer doors. It is also demonstrating an LCD video wall with super narrow bezels for outdoor and indoor digital information display applications.
