SRS Labs, XMOS deliver advanced audio performance for digital iPhone and iPod speaker docks

2011 International CES, SANTA ANA, USA: SRS Labs Inc., officially recognized as one of America’s Greatest Brands and the industry leader in surround sound, audio and voice technologies and XMOS, Ltd, developers of the industry’s first 32-bit event driven microcontroller, announced the availability of SRS WOW HD for XMOS’ iPod/iPhone/iPad speaker dock reference designs, which deliver a turnkey advanced digital dock design with superior audio performance, to CE manufacturers worldwide.

“The XMOS solution, based on a single core XS1-L1 microcontroller, delivers an exciting new SRS WOW HD implementation for digital iPod/iPhone/iPad accessories,” said Joanna Skrdlant, senior director of Global Platform Partnerships for SRS Labs.

“XMOS, like SRS, is committed to quality audio, so their reference design eliminates the annoying wireless interference common in analog dock designs when a docked iPhone receives a call. Coupled with the option to enable SRS WOW HD for enhanced audio performance, we now have a cost-effective digital dock system with remarkable audio performance.”

The new XMOS-based reference design makes it easy for speaker dock makers to leap from sub-$100 analog speaker docks to sophisticated, SRS-enhanced digital audio docks packed with advanced features such as immunity to noise and interference, Apple authentication interface, USB 2.0 host connection to iPod and advanced options including S/PDIF digital input or output, Class D amplifier and SRS WOW HD audio enhancement processing. There is significant processing power available for additional software defined features and system customization.
