2011 International CES, LAS VEGAS, USA: Mirics, developer of FlexiTV™, the world’s first commercial software-based global TV receiver, announced a technology partnership with SAPPHIRE Technology Ltd- a leading supplier of add-in graphics cards for PCs - which will enable users to turn their PC into a receiver and home hub for digital terrestrial TV.
The two companies will be previewing the technology at their respective meeting suites during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Las Vegas, January 6-9, 2011.
Adrian Thompson, VP of Marketing at SAPPHIRE, commented: “SAPPHIRE’s extensive range of graphics cards enhances the user experience in everything from high performance gaming to mainstream entertainment. Extending this range to support broadcast HDTV is a natural progression, and Mirics’ FlexiTV software-based global TV receiver and FlexiStream provide the perfect method of achieving this goal.”
Demonstrations will show PCs equipped with SAPPHIRE graphics cards receiving live standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) content from broadcast sources and relayed, using Mirics’ FlexiStream software, from FlexiTV-equipped PCs in Europe and Asia. FlexiStream enables users to stream content between PCs within the home or via the Internet, enabling viewing of their favorite broadcast channels while away from home.
Simon Atkinson, CEO, Mirics said: "SAPPHIRE is a world leader and we are delighted to be partnering with a company of its stature. This announcement is further proof of the power and flexibility of the Mirics FlexiTV solution, demonstrating its ability to deliver TV in a variety of novel form factors."
