KYOTO, JAPAN, & NEUSS, GERMANY: Kyocera, a pioneer in the field of fine ceramic products and a manufacturer of industrial liquid crystal displays (LCDs), is extending its touch panel line. The touch-sensitive displays are now available in sizes of up to 19 inches. Compared with film on glass systems, the new glass on glass technology achieves higher reliability and enhanced image quality.
Thanks to its special construction, the touch-sensitive glass/glass touch panel LCD series from Kyocera offers improved readability and greater reliability than the foil/glass structure of conventional LCD touch panel combinations. In this series both the main body side and the operating side are made of glass. The displays with touch panel are available with immediate effect and are supplied in the range from 3.5 to 19 inches.
Use of the highly transparent glass substrate reduces the scattering of incident light rays and guarantees a clear view of the display without any distortion. For certain LCD sizes, and especially for outdoor applications, the LCD polarization filter can be attached to the touch panel. This option reduces internal reflection between substrate and LCD, thus facilitating readability in direct sunlight.
The use of glass on both sides guarantees enhanced durability and hermetically seals the touch panel as well. As a result, the touch panel is ideally protected against condensation – even in areas subject to high humidity. Extreme temperatures do not pose any problems for the glass/glass LCD series from Kyocera: storage temperatures range from -40 °C to +95 °C and operating temperatures from -30 °C to +85 °C.
The glass/glass touch panel can be adapted to individual requirements. Regardless of the size of the touch panel, users can thus choose from thicknesses for the main body side of 0.7 mm, 1.1 mm and 1.8 mm, while the glass plate on the operating side always has a thickness of 0.2 millimetres. Diagonals of 3.5 to 19 inches cater for applications in a very wide range of fields. Consequently, it is possible to put together a perfectly matching system for any application.
Kyocera principally sells its products for industrial applications such as automation processes, measuring instruments and medical devices and guarantees its customers long availability of these products.
