Alereon powers new Imation Link wireless A/V extender

AUSTIN & OAKDALE, USA: Alereon Inc., the technology leader for Ultra Wideband (UWB) ECMA solutions, announced that its AL5000 Worldwide UWB Family provides the wireless technology for Imation’s new Link Wireless Audio/Video Extender.

Imation uses Alereon’s NoWire technology to provide a unique product that allows consumers and businesses to easily connect laptops or desktop computers wirelessly to HDTVs or projectors.

“There is tremendous consumer interest in being able to simply and easily link your laptop wirelessly to your HDTV,” said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. “Being able to sit on your couch, surf the web, stream YouTube and Hulu videos and make Skype calls with the audio and video on your HDTV is what consumers are clamoring for. Imation is an ideal partner with both strong technological skills and a large worldwide channel of distribution to bring these products to both the consumer and business markets.”

“Streaming audio and video from a laptop to an HDTV or projector is today’s killer app,’” said Jason Elles, Imation global brand manager. “Using wireless technology from Alereon, our new Imation Link provides both PC and Mac users with a simple yet high performance product to make their viewing experience superior to other potential wireless solutions. Users will love the ability to be connected and up and running on the Link in under five minutes, without the hassle of tangled cords or costly cables. Combine the ease of use with the quality of the video and audio, and we believe the Link is a product consumers can’t help but love.”

The Alereon NoWire technology allows a notebook or desktop to quickly and easily wirelessly connect to an HDTV, monitor, projector or any other type of HDMI or VGA enabled display device. No wireless drivers or user interface need be installed, allowing users to just plug in and immediately be up and running.

The wireless link between the PC and HDTV operates at speeds up to 220 Mbps via ultra wideband wireless technology, leaving the WIFI radio in the PC free to connect to the internet at full speed to stream video files from web sites such as Hulu, Netflix and YouTube.

The Imation Link is available in the United States at Amazon.com and other select distributors for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $149.99.
