DTS and Sharp bring superior sound to new line of network-connected TVs

CALABASAS, USA: DTS Inc., a leader in high-definition audio, announced a partnership with leading consumer electronics manufacturer Sharp Corp.

Sharp has integrated DTS high-definition audio technology into its new line of network-connected PRC-model televisions, released in the first quarter of 2012. This partnership marks the first time a licensee has incorporated DTS 2.0 Channel and DTS 2.0 + Digital Out in televisions capable of delivering superb surround sound and stereo playback for digital content.

Collaboration between Sharp and DTS showcases an ongoing trend of televisions evolving into the home entertainment hub by incorporating new technologies. This trend delivers a superior entertainment experience with high-quality DTS encoded content to the consumer.

“As digital media consumption continues to evolve, DTS is constantly working to enhance the listening experience, regardless of the platform,” said Brian Towne, executive VP and COO of DTS. “From mobile phones to the latest TV innovations, our technologies create a high-quality entertainment experience that is both adaptable to the digital media ecosystem and supports content delivery across multiple screens. We’re dedicated to partnerships with leading manufacturers, such as Sharp, that continuously innovate their televisions to deliver cutting edge technology to provide consumers with a high-definition viewing experience and exceptional audio.”

Sharp’s new network-connected PRC-model televisions integrated with DTS high-definition audio technology enable rich, high-definition audio to accompany high-quality digital content. DTS 2.0 + Digital Out decodes DTS encoded content for two-channel stereo playback directly from the TV, turning the device into a home entertainment media hub and offering an immersive audio experience without additional requirement of a digital media player or set-top box.

The DTS Digital Out also provides compatibility with external devices, such as an AV receiver or home theater system in order to deliver immersive surround sound for the ultimate movie watching experience.
