SerialTek announces support for 12G SAS with BusXpert Pro II protocol analyzer

DURHAM, USA: SerialTek, a leader in storage protocol analysis, introduced the BusXpert Pro II for 12Gbps Serial Attached SCSI. The BusXpert Pro II features SerialTek's PCIe x4 and hardware accelerated Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for extremely fast uploads and trace manipulation, and 500 pico-second clock resolution. The BusXpert Pro II also uses the same intuitive software with innovations like multithreaded processing, fast trace display, trace indexing, and InstaSeach technology.

SerialTek's BusXpert Pro II software features the industry's deepest and most flexible triggering with up to 4 separate simultaneous sequencers, logical branching and counters, and easy definition of frames, commands, etc. Hardware filtering is also available to make the most efficient use of the SAS BusXpert Pro II's configurable buffer, with sizes from 9GB to an industry leading 72GB (144GB coming soon).

The BusXpert Pro II software also offers a variety of ways to display the captured traffic, from viewing an entire command transaction and its associated frames in Transaction view, viewing a frame as it looks in the SAS and SATA specifications in Details view, to viewing the handshaking in Protocol view. Manipulating the trace via searching, hide/show, bookmarking, and by decode is available with just a few clicks.

Pickering Interfaces intros new range of 6GHz PXI solutions

The 40-880 is a 10MHz to 6GHz solid state SPDT switch available as dual, quad, hex and octal configurations. The 40-881 is a 10MHz to 6GHz solid state SP6T available as a single or dual version.

The 40-882 is a 10MHz to 6GHz solid state SP4T switch available in single, dual, triple or quad configurations. The 6GHz switch solutions occupy one, two or three 3U PXI slots depending on the configuration.

NI announces NI VeriStand 2011 for real-time and HIL testing

AUSTIN, USA: National Instruments released NI VeriStand 2011, the latest version of its configuration-based software environment for creating real-time testing and simulation applications including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulators and test cells.

The intuitive, open software interface helps engineers achieve superior system flexibility while decreasing test development time. The new version includes a real-time stimulus profile tool that greatly expands deterministic test execution with looping and branching structures, composable arithmetic functions, multitasking and more. Engineers can combine NI VeriStand 2011 with INERTIA, an add-on from Wineman Technology, Inc, which adds a suite of tools to NI VeriStand for optimized closed-loop control of dynamometer and servo-hydraulic-based test cells.

"NI VeriStand 2011 greatly increases test engineers' flexibility and efficiency, which are critical for keeping pace with the growing complexity of electromechanical control systems," said Ian Fountain, HIL and real-time test platform manager at National Instruments. "With its major advancements for real-time test profile generation and test cell automation, engineers can create real-time test systems that will meet both present and future demands with a single off-the-shelf solution."

The new stimulus profile tool in NI VeriStand 2011 increases test development efficiency and system capabilities by making it possible for engineers to quickly create and reuse sophisticated test profiles. The tool includes an expansive library of structures and operators that significantly decrease test development time and increase test coverage. It also is enhanced with templates for common test routines such as multitasking and data logging and includes other features specifically designed to broaden test coverage and simplify code reuse in even the most demanding real-time testing applications.

The Wineman INERTIA add-on for NI VeriStand 2011 extends the software's functionality for dynamometer and servo-hydraulic-based test cell applications. When combined with NI VeriStand 2011, INERTIA gives engineers advanced closed-loop control with bumpless mode switching, dither and other features that are useful for quickly and efficiently implementing real-time control and test applications. The add-on also includes tools for tuning and monitoring control loops and accounting for mechanical life cycle degradation through amplitude control.

Additionally, INERTIA builds on the new stimulus profile editor in NI VeriStand to provide an application-specific test editor for more efficient authoring of deterministic stimulus profiles that interface with multiple actuator control loops.
NI VeriStand 2011 also provides expanded native support for 14 modeling environments.

This functionality, combined with the other new features in NI VeriStand 2011, make the software ideal for increasing efficiency and capabilities in any real-time testing application.

HID Global launches first University pilot of NFC smartphones carrying digital keys for access control

BANGALORE, INDIA: HID Global announced a pilot project that showcases the benefits of using NFC smartphones for opening doors at universities and other campus environments.

The trial is underway at Arizona State University (ASU),where a group of students and staff are accessing a campus residence hall and selected resident’s rooms using HID Global’s new iCLASS SE credentials embedded into a variety of popular smartphones connected to all major mobile networks.

ASU manages on-campus housing for approximately 13,000 students living in 34 residence halls. To implement the pilot, HID Global deployed iCLASS SE readers on secured doors to ASU’s Palo Verde Main hall, and HID technology-enabled Sargent Profile Series electromechanical locks from ASSA ABLOY on selected resident room doors. Participants were given NFC smartphones carrying next-generation iCLASS SE technology that enables new levels of security, convenience, portability and performance.

To open door locks, participants present the phones to a door reader just like they do with their existing Sun Cards, which are iCLASS-based campus credentials. All participants are using their phones for residence hall access, and some are also using them with a unique additional digital key and PIN to open individual room doors. The technology also supports over-the-air provisioning and management of digital keys, which simplifies administration of the access control system.

41 percent of all enterprise communications app users worldwide to migrate to cloud by 2016

NEW YORK, USA: In the rapidly evolving enterprise communications market, CPE vendors confront imminent erosion in their installed base as cloud services gain traction across the public, private, and hybrid cloud domains. By 2016, 41 percent of all enterprise communications users, or 386 million lines/seats, will be on virtual infrastructure, posing a serious danger to the CPE market.

“For CPE vendors, the cloud threat is real,” says senior analyst Subha Rama. “By 2016, the communications CPE market will only grow 4.3 41 percent, while cloud communications will grow by over 21 41 percent, reaching $8 billion in revenues.”

Smaller vendors with point solutions will see cloud services rapidly displace their installed bases. Large vendors are becoming cloud providers or key enablers as well. However, many of the CPE solutions are simply not cloud ready and will see performance downgrades when virtualized.

There are three prominent forces influencing cloud migration:
* The growing adoption of data center architectures and virtualization technologies.
* The need to integrate multiple applications to deliver the connected experience to users across different devices, including smartphones and media tablets.
* The promise of lower costs and increased efficiencies from standardized platforms and processes in the cloud.

Enterprises are adopting a non-linear approach to cloud migration; while certain applications undergo experimentation, others are retained on premises. Mixed environments and hybridization are becoming the norm, especially with larger enterprises. However, the technology to manage hybrid clouds and to enable seamless movement of applications instances across different vendor clouds is in its infancy.

“Enterprise mobilization is also driving migration to the cloud,” says practice director Dan Shey. “Cloud applications ease application delivery for businesses that are increasingly relying on access across fixed and mobile endpoints.”
